Angelina Jolie is much liked at OP and across Pakistan for her unstinting support of Pakistan as evidenced in previous posts here. Angelina Jolie has recently visited Pakistan for the fourth time and met many people in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa where she heard the harrowing stories of the flooded people of Pakistan.
Readers may know that Angelina Jolie has personally donated $100,000 dollars for the flooded people of Pakistan, the donated figure is important given it is reported by the Daily Telegraph to be nearly double the sum of Rs 5 million or $58,000 donated by President Zardari for his own people. Angelina Jolie clearly has a soft spot for Pakistan given that she assisted Pakistan during the earthquake of 2005 and more recently the Jolie-Pitt Foundation donated $1m dollars to UNICEF for the internally displaced people of Swat.
Amidst the never-ending negativity that stalks Pakistan, Angelina Jolie’s visit to flood-affected Pakistan has helped to focus world attention to Pakistan’s plight. Angelina Jolie’s press conference reminded the world of the challenge that faces Pakistan. Indeed Angelina Jolie’s vocal and public support for Pakistan and its flood relief work and her condemnation of the plans by a satanic pastor in the US to burn the Holy Quran is welcome. Indeed she is a living proof of the fact that kindness and humanity transcends everything including nationhood.
