A Deal with the Devil
From childhood we have been told that the devil is imprisoned and in chains during the holy month of Ramadan. However without wishing to offend it seems this cannot be true at least in Pakistan where the devil has been mighty busy making deals left, right and centre with deposed judges to secure their reappointment to the courts.
Such deals with the devil have been inked in unholy blood with even the famed now defamed Tariq Pervez selling out and gyrating no doubt to Mick Jagger’s classic ’sympathy for the devil’ . Sadly such deposed judges like Tariq Pervez and others who were our heroes have become zeros for they have betrayed the lawyers movement and the wider nation and for what?
Do remember that every deposed judge was receiving their salary hence no judge can claim financial problems as their reason for their sell-out. Furthermore every judge who refused to join the Dog(gar) courts in the provinces and in their so called ‘supreme court’ had for their sacrifices acquired a respect and reverence amongst Pakistanis that was unparalled in modern day Pakistan.
Yet the cookie crumbled as it were and deposed judges who earlier stood for the restoration of the real judiciary instead chose to stab their brother judges and the legal fraternity not only in the back but in the front too by selling out to a Zardari-Naek formula, a deal with the devil and no less.
In choosing to return to their courts via a reappointment which itself is illegal on a number of counts the deposed and now Zardari-PCO judges have undone all their good work thus far. Gone forever are the plaudits for their principled stand, gone are the garlands and reverence from the Pakistani masses for they have betrayed a cause that has been fought in their name.
A compare and contrast exercise is necessary here, do consider again that Tariq Pervez and others have been paid fat cat sums as salary and that they enjoyed the support of the public in their stance against the actions of November 3rd.
Consider too the plight of the ordinary lawyer and the real hero of this movement many of whom have always struggled to make ends meet. Yet even today these lawyers remain steadfast in this noble struggle to ensure a free judiciary irrespective of the financial losses they incur owing to their boycotts.
Do remember that such ordinary lawyers cannot lay claim to a fat cat salary of the likes of one Tariq Pervez and his like yet their principles unlike those of Tariq Pervez and his like are not for sale. To conclude it is as clear as day that the deposed judges have betrayed the cause and rushed into a deal with the devil. In doing so they have shown their true colours.
So stand and hail Tariq Pervez & Co , the eight sinners of Sindh and the new dogs of the Dog(gar )court for their folly. I suspect that maybe like Mick Jagger they all have developed some symapthy for the devil, and during Ramadan too what a feat!
